Q   How do I signup?
A   Signup is accomplished through this website. Click "Signup Today!" on the home page or in the "Getting Started" menu selection to start the signup process..

You will need to have your credit card information handy and you will have to invent a username and password for your account, both between 6 to 8 characters long. I would also be useful if you had a printer connected to your computer because the last step of the signup process gives you all you account setup data. You should print out a copy of that page and keep it for your reference when setting up your computer.

A   As with any service, you may occasionally experience a busy signal during peak periods. However, Qwickconnect.net continually updates its systems to increase capacity, this results in the ability to connect with Qwickconnect on demand. One of our highest priorities is to provide you with the best Internet Access available, and we quickly respond to busy signals if they occur.

Q   What is my e-mail server capacity?
A   5 Megabytes.

Q   What is the attachment capacity per e-mail?
A   A little less then 5 Megabytes This is usually imposed by the mail server that you are sending to.

Q   How do I change my password?
A   Click the LOGIN button on any page of this site and after entering your username and password you will be presented with several utilities for managing you account. Click the button next to the utility titled: "Change Password" and click "Continue". This will open up your password administration interface.

Enter your new password (twice for accuracy) and click "Update" to change your password.

Q   How do I change my username?
A   Usernames are KEY information in our systems that all records use as links. You cannot change a username once established. The only way to accomplish this is to cancel the account with the username you don't want, and then signup for a new account with the one you do want.

Our suggestion is don't change your username. If you don't like the email address that it creates, make another email box with the name you like and use that one instead. The login username is invisible to the world anyway.

Q   How do I setup my additional email boxes?
A   Click the LOGIN button on any page of this site and after entering your username and password you will be presented with several utilities for managing you account. Click the button next to the utility titled: "Manage Email Accounts" and click "Continue". This will open up your email administration interface.

Enter a username and password for any or all of the email accounts in the interface and click Update to create them. To delete an email box(s), blank out the username(s) and password(s) for the account(s) in question and click Update. You can independently update passwords as well as account names by changing the field in question and then clicking Update.

Changing account names causes any mail left on our mail server for the old account to be deleted. You should make sure to POP all mail off the server before changing any account names.

Q   How do I access WEBMAIL?
A   Click the WEBMAIL button on any page in this site, enter your username and password and you gain access to your personal WEBMAIL interface. You can send, forward, reply and receive email with the same capabilities as your desktop email application program.

Especially handy when needing to access email without having your computer with you.

Q   How is my account billed?
A   All billing is by credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover). All charges are automatically billed to the members credit card on the day of signup and each monthly anniversary from that point on until the account is cancelled. Accounts cancel on the next monthly anniversary day only, regardless of when the cancellation order was placed. There are no partial refunds.

Q   What happens if my credit card is declined for billing?
A   Your dialup connectivity will be suspended before the start of the next month.

Qwickconnect will retry your credit card once more a few days later and if the card debits, your connectivity will be restored. If you suspect that your card is having a problem use the LOGIN function on any page of our website to check your status and/or update your credit card information. Once you update your card information you account will re-activate automatically.

Q   What happens if my credit card expires?
A   At the beginning of the month of expiration you will receive an email in your Qwickconnect.net email account notifying you that your card is about to expire at the end of the month. You have until then to get your information updated. You can use the update credit card information interface in the LOGIN button on our website.

If you do not update your expiration date or enter a new valid credit card number your account will automatically be cancelled at the end of the month.

Q   How do I cancel my account?
A   You may cancel you account at any time by sending an email to billing@qwickconnect.net stating: "Cancel My Account". Be sure to include your username and password for identification purposes.

A confirmation email will be sent to you when the account is put in the cancellation queue stating:

Your account is queued for cancellation, no further charges will be made to your credit card.

Q   Do you sell or give out any of my information?
A   No, we do not sell or give out any of your personal information.

Q   Can I log into my account more than once at the same time?
A   No, Qwickconnect.net does not allow users to maintain simultaneous logins on the same account. You may purchase an additional dial-up accounts if you require more than one connection at a time.

Q   When I connect to the Internet I get an "Authentication Failed" error message.
A   This manifestation has many reasons listed in order of likeliness:

1. The username or password is incorrectly entered. Dialup usernames look exactly like an email address: username@qwickconnect.net. All other username entries for example: E-mail are just the "username" without the @qwickconnect.net.

2. Your Dialer and/or TCP/IP configurations are corrupted. The solution to this is to remove and remake them and then reenter you account information again.

3. Your credit card may have declined for the monthly billing in which case your connectivity is interrupted, not your account. If you card has already expired on the other hand, your account is most probably cancelled.

4. Wrong dialup number: Check you dialup number against the ones listed in this site. Area codes through out the US can experience number changes and upgrades from time to time.

5. Your local PSTN (Publicly Switched Telephone Network) is having a problem. These problems usually resolve themselves in a short while, if not, your local phone company is the one to contact for resolution.

6. You could have violated the "rules of the road" with hijinx such as spamming, hacking, maintaining a dedicated connection, multiple connection or otherwise abusing your Internet privileges... I'm sure this does not apply to you however, right?

7. An actual Qwickconnect network problem exists (very rare). If this is the case then, we already know about it and are working to resolve the problem.

Q   Where is my icon?
A   There is no software needed to use our service. Everything required to set up the internet connection is already installed on your computer. For Windows® based operating systems, a dial-up connection can be set up through Dial-Up Networking.

For Macintosh® operating systems, there is also no software needed. A connection can be set up through the Internet Setup Assistant.

Q   How do I create a shortcut on my desktop for my dial-up networking connection?
A   For Windows® operating systems:

1. On your desktop, double click on My Computer

2. Double click Control Panel

3. Double Click Dial-Up Networking

4. In the dial-up networking folder, right click on your Qwickconnect.net dial-up connection icon. Then click Create Shortcut

Q   How do I change the dial-up access number?
A   For Windows® operating systems:

1. On your desktop, double click on My Computer

2. Double click Control Panel

3. Double click Dial-Up Networking

4. In the dial-up networking folder, right click on your Qwickconnect.net dial-up connection icon. Then click Properties

5. Under the General Tab, enter in the dial-up access number you would like to use (We recommend that you check with your local operator to make sure that the local access number is not a toll charge.)

For Macintosh® operating system:

1. Go to the Apple menu, select Control Panel, then select Remote Access

2. In the Number field, type in the access number you'd like to use (We recommend that you check with your local operator to make sure that the local access number is not a toll charge.)

Q   Why can't I connect at 56K if I have a 56K Modem?
A   There are many factors that can affect your connection speed. Some of them are:

*  Modem speed

*  Modem type

*  Supported speed based on the dial-up number

*  Quality of phone lines in your area

*  User traffic at a given time

As a result, connection speeds tend to vary.

Q   I get a "Hardware Failure" error when dialing up.
A   There is a conflict with our dialer program and the dialer program for AOL. If both dialers are installed, when you attempt to connect using the Qwickconnect dialer you will receive a message stating "hardware failure". To remedy this uninstall the AOL software and then run the Qwickconnect dialer again.

Q   When I use the Qwickconnect.net webmail checker, I don't see all my messages, but when I check using my email program, I see all my messages. Why?
A   Once emails are pulled from the email server, they are no longer stored there. If you were not to pull the email and check it online, then the messages would be there. You can also setup your program to leave the messages on your server. Please check your email program instructions for more information.

Q   Nothing happens once I get connected. Why?
A   Once you have established a connection with Qwickconnect.net, you can then open up your web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer or Netscape), email program, chat program etc. Since no software is installed with the Qwickconnect.net, no programs will automatically load upon connection.

Q   When I load my web browser, Qwickconnect.net does not appear as my home page. Why?
A   Since Qwickconnect.net does not install any software during setup, your web browser is not configured to make Qwickconnect.net your default home page. You can set your browsers home page to any website you wish. To do so, go into the properties of your web browser.

Q   I can't access LOGIN or the SIGNUPS, I get a secure certificate error.
A   The Firefox browser exhibits some peculiarities, this is one of them.

In Firefox's menu strip at the top there's the white window displaying the current URL If you manually click, delete what's in there and type in:

about:config

then hit return a large list of parameters show up which you can change the values of. The one of particular interest here is:

security.ssl3.rsa_rc2_40_md5

Scroll down and double click this which sets it to "true" instead of it's default "false".

Now, Firefox users can use LOGIN or SIGNUP and probably lot's of other secure entry points on the web.

Q   How can I improve my connection speed?
A   Tips and tricks for faster Internet connections

1. Faster Modem - The most often is often overlooked. The two most common high speed technologies available for dial-up modems are 56K DataFlex and 56K V.90. Qwickconnect.net supports both standards on all its modems.

2. High Quality Telephone Cord - Its true; cheap phone cords can reduce signal strength and quality, thereby contributing to slower connection speeds.

3. Use Data Quality Cabling - When installing telephone wire between the phone companies terminator block and your phone jack inside the house, be sure to use data-quality, twisted pair wire.

4. Minimize other equipment - If possible, use a dedicated phone line. If you are sharing a phone line with a fax machine, plug the modem into the wall and then the fax machine into the "phone" plug on your modem so that no other equipment is between your modem and the telco. Basically, anything you can do to reduce other equipment on the same phone line will improve signal strength and quality.

5. Use a phone number close to you - Your distance to your local CO as well as the distance to the number you are dialing may affect your connection speed. Basically, the closer you are, the fewer the number of switches or repeaters your signal may have to go through before arriving at its destination. Each of these devices can cause signal quality and speed loss. This generally occurs only in areas using older telco equipment.

6. Make sure your ISP isn't overloaded - Occasional lag, or lag to certain websites is common on the Internet, but not if your throughput is regularly significantly less than your connect speed, some ISP's may be serving more users than they can reasonably handle. Qwickconnect.net has enough bandwidth available to handle full speed for all dial-up customers, and then some.

7. Optimize your computer - If you are using Windows® 95 or 98, your system is optimized for TCP/IP on a LAN, not on a dial-up connection. Since you access the Internet using a modem, consider using a package such as InternetBoost (http://www.bonzi.com/Support/bstsupport.htm) to optimize your data throughput speeds. Note: This software has no effect on your connection speed, only on the actual throughput speed of data on whatever connection speed your modem has established.
